Lawrence Lessig on the tragedy of the commons in relation to the struggle between copyright and culture creation. Lessig is a brilliant speaker, and this video sums up a big chunk of his overarching message with the Creative Commons. The benefits, both economically and culturally (that intangible dimension that acts to make any argument so much less cogent), are innumerable. Corporations that export and distribute mass media (and, thus, culture) have a vested interest in one sense to keep the legislative monopolies on that content inviolable; societies as a whole have a duty, however, to open that culture for subsequent analysis and exploitation.
